• It turns out I have 16,000 Delta skymiles that expire on 12/31/08.  These days I rarely fly Delta, since any flights on the west coast usually fly via Salt Lake City.  I thought a great way to use these is to 'gift' them to my parents, who are skymile junkies.  However, it appears that to gift miles you have to buy them...wha?  This doesn't make sense to me, and I certainly don't want to pay $60 per 2000 miles when I have 8x more that are due to expire that I earned flying.  Since I don't need any new magazine subscriptions (the other option for miles due to expire), I wonder if the skymiles are going to the big fluffy clouds in the sky sooner than I'd like.  The WSJ reports that many mileage programs are cuting back and only about 35% of flyers are styaing loyal to their airlines in the current economy. Definitely not surprising.
