- Brother Dan is still here and doing well. Today we are checking out some around town sites in the evening.
- The Weather Channel is rolling out targeted mobile ads. It's good to see a relevant use for mobile ads - it's raining in Charlotte? Run to Walmart for your umbrella special! Or maybe it's Lipton who wants to offer you chicken soup to warm you up. I'll test this out later today.
- Viva la france! France plans to develop it's own Google rival. This sounds very minitel-esque. The French pride themselves on their technology, fast trains, and engineering feats. Let's hope they can pull of something that can match up! I would love to see what they come up with.
- AOL bought social UK teen community network bebo.com for $850 million. Bebo, which was advised on the deal by Allen & Co, has struggled in the US, but is the third most popular social networking site in the UK after Facebook and MySpace, where it is visited by 4.1 million, mostly younger people a month. I met the founder of Bebo last year along with their adserving team. I felt so old, but good for them for becoming part of the AOL family. How they will fare as AOL continues to sort out internally is still up for debate.
