June 30 2005
- Wow a whole month and more has gone by since posting. I guess I have been a busy bee.
- This summer has been busy kayaking, running, and making some local travel trips (local means in the continental US give or take 1 or 2 time zones).
- I got into the NYC Marathon. This is a mixed blessing for me. Mixed good so that I can complete a marathon in the new millenium, mixed bad that now I have to actually put some pedal to the medal and train for it. Overall I am happy to run (famous last words) The ING New York City Marathon. Of course those who want to run never get in, and those who get in dont' expect to...
- I'm not DJing as much as I should. I need more practice, and namely more room to put my turntables...but I have done more scratching, literally, and my brother hooked me up with a fwe more gigs of songs, so I think I'm all set for a while!

- Going to see Episode III this weekend? Make sure you see the preview that didn't quite make the final cut! Use the farm! http://www.storewars.org/flash/index.html
- Shelter Island 10k this weekend - that's where I'll be in Long Island.Event Details

- Busy day! Today I heard Forrester on EII and BI in relation to data warehousing at a breakfast sponsorship. It was very intersting and gave me a lot of food for thought.
- So much food, that it extended over into leisure activities. Next week my company will be introduced to a kayak culture!
- Good article from the salesforce site on why their technology beats out Siebel. Marc Benioff: Who's Afraid of Siebel?
- Today I'm heading to a great eatery called Spice Market with a sales vendor. Thanks, sales vendor for taking me here! Spice Market - New York Magazine Restaurant Review

May 16 2005
- I've tried posting since April, but my pretty junky home laptop conks out and my text never makes the last mile. Let's hope this one gets there!
What's new in May?
- I donated blood for the first time. It worked out great except now my entire right forearm is one giant bruise. If anybody asks, I fell down the stairs... (my brother's favorite line as he continues to beat me up...at 28).
- Kayaking has started!!!!!! Kayaking, anyone? The water is cold, and wet suits are out, which puts a whole new twist on the sport. check it out here and let me know when you want to come out! http://www.manhattankayak.com - check out the monthly schedule.
- I have a few mini vacations planned - Cyndi's baby shower in DC, followed by a 1/2 week in Raleigh NC to see my favorite team Kris and Brye, Otis and Tess. I'm off to Newport RI for Memorial Day, should be great fun at Grace's pad. Oh, and this weekend I'm in Shelter Island for the 10k race, and lots of partying post -race. Ok, maybe I have a more than a few!
- For any of you foreigners, I am now a SKYPE member. Find me at rachaelmay !
- There are some great bands playing locally this summer. Too bad I didn't get tickets, but folks like Snow Patrol, the Killers, and Death Cab for Cutie are all playing summer stage , so it's free access in the field behind the stage, hah!
- I found this article on another blog, but it's hillarious - true true The worst foods to eat over a keyboard: ZDNet Australia: Jobs: Resources
- I felt compelled to enter a work online "blitz" chess tournament. Yahoo Chess has a great java game room with literally thousands of players. Yahoo! Games I knew I was a bit rough on playing, what maybe 10 years since I've played? Well, predictably I did not fare well. I think I'm going to try to improve my game a bit for the next time. Mentors, anyone?

April 27
- I love this site, I found it from a blog in Ozzie: http://216.92.212.16/housing/ cool new Google tool and housing listing.
- Its cold and rainy in NYC. What kind of spring day is this? It reminds me of Dublin. Oh well.
- Heading to Boston this weekend. Andy and Anton are having a very exciting wigs and hats party. I plan on recycling my Irish St. Patrick's Day hats. My they are getting a lot of use this year.
- I finally got a chance to mix some vinyl last night. I hadn't done so since pre-ozzie trip. Very depressing for me. I am pretty out of practice, and I realize I still need a lot of records. You can only mix a small set so much. It was a great time though, and I can't wait to do it again. I think I can also record songs now on my new iAudio MP3 player - you can record a line in so using my mixer, I should be able to do this. Wish me luck (It will probably be bad quality sound, but I will give it my best shot).

- I'm back in NYC. Just returned from Boulder and visiting Dan and Todd, my step-brothers. They took good care of me. In a weekend we crammed in a nuggets game, a beer festival, skiing at Vail ($10 tickets for the last day of the season!), and a really bad horror movie - do NOT see this if you have a fear of saws or didn't like silence of the lambs (it's about 10 times worse!) Saw (2004).
- I added the "Kinja" logo so you can add this to your Kinja sites. Click on it as it's pretty cool. You won't get any free stuff, but you didn't need that anyway, cheapskates.

First of...the most important news of the day...
- Happy Birthday Mom! The earth was blessed with Candy today, thanks for being you and a great mom! I love you! :)
- If you use Firefox, check out Google Preview extension, I read about it here, it's very cool so check it out! Mozilla Update : Extensions -- More Info: GooglePreview
- Interesting article on Siebel and their CEO Lawrie who is from IBM. Sounds like they're on the right track, but the market still has to catch up with them as they fell 9% today. Lawrie Rewrites the Siebel Book
- Andy and I have our last night in NYC today. What shall we do? We are pretty worn out from excursions all week, so we will play it be ear. It's a great spring day, so maybe we'll find something nice outside.
- I changed my IM icon...it's the famous koala picture! If you think it's hokey voice that opinion!

- Andy has arrived from Boston. I now have free tech support for all home technological endeavors. He also brought me a new mp3 player - very good - the next version available from iAudio: COWON America

March 30 - Spring Blog Cleaning
It's a busy time of year, so a few things to get in order include
- keeping a cosistent blog post
- other things
What's going on with me?
- I finally have Internet at home
- I have a cell phone that appears to be working
- Things are fun, good, and exciting lately - maybe it's the fairer weather, or the idea I may be going to the Galway races in July, or the idea that I wouldn't mind living in Melbourne. Something is in the air!
Did you know?
You can go to New Zealand for the same price it takes to go to Europe in June? Amazing! See for yourself!
http://leisure.travelocity.com/Promotions/0,,TRAVELOCITY2007air_main,00.html
How can I possibly justify this kind of decision? Galway races, or a week of skiing in Queenstown? Any takers?
I also just learned it takes 35,000 frequent filer miles to get to Hawaii, while it takes 50,000 to get to Europe. Where's the logic in that? Anyone want to go to Hawaii, I need to brush up on some surfing. I am totally serious.

Happy post St. Patrick's Day!
I was away for a bit there, but now I am back in blogging action!
Skiing was great in Italy. I highly recommend the Sella Ronda in Alta Badia. 40 KM of skiing from town to town in a big loop.
This weekend I'm NJ bound, heading up to Blue Mountain for some spring skiing in the Poconos.

- Greetings from Dublin, it's nice to be home. It is snowing here today, which is more rare than finding a 4 leaf clover apparently.
- I've bought a new cell phone. Big fan of http://www.ubid.com where electronics are as cheap as they get, plus shipping of course.
- The new office here is great - a lot of natural light and plenty of sodas

- Checking out a site I normally don't go to, but could see more of in my future, I found this cool article called: MSN Money - 5 great, cheap growth stocks and a tool to find more - Jubak's Journal . I'm not an active investor these days, but this at least made sense to me.

- Happy Hump day. Not a bad day though, as in 2 days I'm leaving for Dublin where I will see and stay with Nora. I hope to see some folks from my Whitsunday sailing as well, as well as an x-boyfriend. Very exciting reunions all around!

- Rainy and cold - NYC is not pleasant today.
Brr. My photo print from Sydney arrived! Too bad it was left outside my appt.
I can't believe they just left it there - as a Holiday all consent to leave is void, apparently.

Happy Tibetian New Year! Last night I attended an amazing concert for the Tibet House US at Carnegie Hall. This was sandwiched inbetween a pre and post party. We even spotted Uma Thurman in the ranks, bidding away her hard earned cash for a good cause. Check out the all star line-up:
TIBET HOUSE U.S. PROGRAMS: Special Programs
One of the best parts of the evening was a 8 minute clip from a local documentary: Bullets in the Hood - a Bed-Stuy Story. This film is possible due to grants from corporations who give to support projects like this. Without funding, things like this wouldn't be possible. The director Terrence spoke at our screening, and was on the Today show this morning.
Read more about it here: Bullets in the Hood - a Pro-TV Production by Terrence Fisher and Danny Howard
Must prepare for a "webinar" now - more later.

Welcome to the Blue Bobsled!
Come fly with me, up and away, on my blue bobsled!
No no, it's just a figurative term. Why Blue Bobsled? Well, no one had a blog named that first on blogger.com. Years ago, I had a dream that involved me driving in a limo with my parents to the debut of the opening of my new bar, the Blue Bobsled! I have no idea how visionary it is, but the name always stuck and I think people will remember it.
That said, here's to future posts, and enjoying the life of a blogger.
Why a blog?
I've always been a web-aholic, before it was the web or the Internet. Back in the early 1990's I thought it was the most amazing thing to log into the SUNY Albany VAX and try to find who else was on the system, and who was connected at other networks. I'd post on any user group that I thought could use my comments. I gopher'd and finger'd my way around and probably struck up more random conversations around the US, and probably the world, just for the sake of remote and virtual conversations. One of my favorite memories was seeing if my other geeky friend Colleen was on her network at Georgetown, and then we did what was a 1991 version of Instant Messengering. Betcha didn't know you could do that back then!
So, a blog is the next evolutionary step after my web site postings on various URLs that had mostly to do with my rowing career. Maybe I'll post those for you some day.
Enjoy!
